A Key Takeaway from the Gartner Market Guide for Supply Chain Strategy, Planning and Operations Consulting

Guest Author: Dan Avila, ‪Vice President of Sales, Consulting & Automation at enVista

enVista was recently recognized as a Representative Vendor for the 5th year in the Market Guide for Supply Chain Strategy, Planning and Operations Consulting published by Gartner, Inc., a firm delivering actionable, objective insight to executives and their teams. At enVista, we are pleased to be recognized in the Gartner report. We believe the recognition is a validation of the groundbreaking end-to-end supply chain consulting work we are performing with leading brands across North America.

I believe, one particular quote from the report that really resonated with me is, “Using a consulting firm that has strong operations consulting capabilities and supply chain strategy expertise, can be advantageous. This is because the strategy, roadmap and recommendations developed during the strategy phase are more likely to be actionable and implementable by these firms.” This is exactly what we hear from our clients, they really like our combination of operations experience and supply chain background which result in actionable recommendations that can be implemented by enVista or by our clients if they have the necessary staff available.

As we embark on 2024, we are excited to continue working with our clients and providing this unique combination of operational and supply chain expertise. Below are the leading supply chain consulting services we offer which are led by operationally experienced and focused consulting teams.

Distribution Network Strategy: This is a key practice area for enVista, where we counsel our clients on how to expand and modify their network of manufacturing and distribution facilities to best serve their customers. enVista’s network analysis typically includes challenging the status quo on transportation, distribution, and inventory policies resulting in game-changing cost-to-serve improvements.

Supply Chain Planning: This is one of our strongest offerings that can deliver real-time cost improvements. Our team consults across supply chain planning and has deep experience in demand forecasting, supply planning, inventory planning, and sales and operations planning. Recently we have begun providing services around forecasting as a service and inventory planning as a service. Additionally, we help our clients select and implement supply chain planning software tools and have partnered with several of the leading software providers in this space.

Distribution Center Design: This is one of the longest-standing practice areas at enVista but is more important than ever. We are helping our clients reduce their dependency on labor by evaluating the myriad of automated material handling solutions on the market. Our unbiased solutions recommend the solutions that are the best fit for our client’s particular requirements.

Distribution Center Optimization: Many of our clients have struggles within their DCs, they may not know what the issue is all they see are symptoms such as high labor costs. Poor fill rates, long order cycle times, too many picking and shipping errors. enVista can deploy a group of distribution specialists who can perform root cause analysis to determine the cause of the symptoms our clients are experiencing. We then expertly prescribe tactical and sometimes strategic solutions to remedy their challenges.

Outsourcing Strategy and Implementation: We are frequently asked by our clients if they should outsource or insource portions of their supply distribution networks. We evaluate this from two different lenses. First the cost lens as there are gives and takes for each alternative, we find the best way to evaluate this is to build a realistic cost model for each scenario. The second lens is around capability. For example, even if there is a business case to insource, does the company have the wherewithal to run their own distribution network? Many times, there is a void in talent and systems which will make insourcing a challenge. If we determine a client should shift from an insource to an outsource model, or vice versa, we can help design and implement the strategy.

As you evaluate your supply chain strategy and look to make supply chain improvements, be sure to consider enVista as your consulting partner.
